Ultimate Brotini #2 – Cape Samurai Wasabi Martini

For eight days, we’re hitting you with the bravest, most dude-worthy cocktails we can dig up. Some of these you can make yourself, and at least one is only found at a posh bar at a Manhattan cheese shop, and only by request. You’re bound to be inspired to down some brave spirits, and you’ll certainly rethink the idea of a martini.

If you want to man up and test your limits with wasabi, you could try something like they did in the infamous scene in Jackass below. However, we really don’t recommend it for obvious reasons, and we can’t believe we have to even say that. But there’s your disclaimer. Don’t be a Jackass.

Or you can be a civilized yet brave chap and try wasabi in your next martini.

The Cape Samurai was created by Li Ya Nan of the Mango Tree in London and features a great Cape North  vodka with a little rose, lime, ginger and wasabi. The spicy green wasabi is the major player in this cocktail, but it is tamed down to be palatable (and drinkable) by the other ingredients.

The pickled ginger below is the shaved ginger that’s found in jars and most likely on the shelves at your local grocery store with many other Asian delights.

If you can’t find rose syrup at a local niche grocery store, try right here at Amazon.com.

Ingredients:

  • 25 ml fresh lime juice
  • 50 ml Cape North Vodka (or other clear naughty water)
  • 20 ml rose syrup
  • 4 pickled ginger
  • half a barspoon of green wasabi

Instructions:

  1. Muddle the ginger and wasabi in a mixing glass.
  2. Add the other ingredients and ice.
  3. Shake well.
  4. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
