You don’t need it, and damn sure can’t afford it. While you gaze upon the showcase here, you can hear your checkbook crying wherever it is — that’s for sure. We don’t care. We’re just waving flashy stuff around that we can’t afford either. Welcome to your tour of the unnecessary and elite.

Every man should have a few toys. They’re a good way to keep him from getting into too much trouble. But what if you had a love of golf and an extra room in your house? Why not make it into a virtual golf course?! According to their website, Full Swing is the most popular golf simulator in the world. The unit itself is composed of a virtual teeing area and a giant screen that shows the course. You hit the ball off of the tee and onto the screen. The machine then measures how hard you hit the ball and figures out where it would land on the course. These aren’t just a bunch of imaginary courses; Full Swing has mapped out actual golf courses, meaning that you can play through a real course if you want to.

The simulator itself looks pretty impressive. Size-wise, it takes up almost a whole room. Depending on the model you get, the screen can be up to 100 inches in diameter. If it’s 3:00 AM, and you’re all alone in your boxers and you want to play some golf, the Full Swing Simulator won’t stop you. It might also be useful if you want to get a detailed reading on how good or bad your swing is. The simulator can give you a detailed reading of how far the ball would have gone, where it would have landed and how close to the hole it would have been.

That’s all good and well, but why play virtual golf? If you can afford a golf simulator, you can probably afford a few games of actual golf. Full Swing doesn’t list the actual price for their units. Instead they ask that you contact a sales person for a quote (that’s never a good sign), but the going rate seems to be somewhere around $55,000.
