Tasting Notes: Larry’s Beans Coffee

We’re lucky enough to have companies send us their products to try, and although we’ve gotten a few doozies, we share only the best with you guys.

Fair trade coffee = guilt free coffee.  People are not being ripped off in other countries for the sake of your cup of Joe.  Maybe you’ve never thought about it otherwise, but fair trade is a pretty big deal if you’re into the whole “everyone has rights” thing that we’d recommend to all human beings.

Farmers (and their products) from all over the world who work with Fair Trade partners, such as Cooperative Coffees, are treated with respect, care and dignity.  The mission of these groups is to help the farmers and their community thrive so that they may continue to grow quality product on sustainable land.

Larry’s Beans is certified Fair Trade and organic.

Exquisite coffee.  When you buy Larry’s Beans you are buying whole coffee beans.  Believe it or not, coffee has a relatively short shelf life so when you’re able to nab the whole beans you’re more likely to have a fresher tasting coffee.  I used my food processor at home to grind up the beans as needed.

If it’s a really good coffee, I will gladly drink it black; as I did with Larry’s Beans.  We were given the Woodstock Morning Blend and the Republica Dominicana to try.  I was able to enjoy two wonderful cups of black coffee, free of bitterness and smooth as they could be.  It was a real treat that I highly recommend to any coffee lovers out there.

Knowing that Larry’s Beans coffee beans are supporting farming communities in other countries is a huge, wonderful perk to drinking their coffee.  When the trade is done fairly, the people that farm the beans are happy and the land that it grows in is fertile — and perhaps it even shows in the coffee.  Visit Larry’s Beans website if you’re interested in having some of those beans for yourself.

I am all for fair trade products, so good of Larry to cut the farmers a square deal!

If we had only producer coops instead of third party single proprietorships, limited partnerships, and publicly traded corporations what do you think that world would look like as it relates to the distribution of income?

Would such a dominate business model flourish better under a National Socialist system? If not, then what macro system would cultivate the successes of producer coops in your opinion, Kate?
