Style Notes: Aventus Cologne by Creed

Colognes are going to be a matter of taste, of course. No scent can be absolutely delightful to all humans. One man’s ambrosia is another man’s baby burp. Theoretically. That does seem pretty unlikely, doesn’t it? It does. The point being — almost any scent can work some lusty magic on at least one human on this fine planet. Other scents, perhaps one like Aventus, can work that magic on many.

Launched in 2010 by the respected Creed family of perfumers from France, Aventus was created with a distinct theme: the life and triumphs of Napoleon! The logic behind some of the ingredients used is both brilliant and highly amusing. Blackcurrant is a leading component in the scent. Their source? Corsica, the birthplace of the famous general, of course. Pineapple is a subtle addition, included here because it was the guy’s favorite dessert. This is amazing to me — historical details encoded in cologne form! More thought goes into perfumery than most would think. Louisiana birch, guys, because that’s the wood used for his throne. Amazing details, I tell you.

It’s a fresh scent, not heavy or overbearing. You wouldn’t take offense being stuck next to the wearer in an elevator. The fruit notes definitely come through in an agreeable combination. Don’t go overboard. Walk into a couple of light sprays, and you should find the sweet spot between “smelling great” and “please don’t stand so close to me.”

Since beauty is in the nose of the beholder, the opinions of two friends (one gal, one guy) were solicited before this writing. After a bit of simulated wafting and a small amount of chest-sniffing by an unnamed associate, the focus group agreed that Aventus is quite nice, indeed, and that a gentleman bearing a scent such as this could pretty much run things (given that he already possessed the required attitude, resources, connections, and footwear.)

Aventus is available in sizes of 1 oz., 2.5 oz., 4 oz., and 8 oz., at prices ranging from $140 to $370.

I want to see more scents inspired by famous conqueres!

IMHO for this line they should do what the people behind the “SCENT OF CHRIST” jesus candle did (which was supposed to smell like the guy based upon various descriptions of his odor lifted from the bible)

(That was actually a typo, not a spelling error believe it or not)
