World’s Sexiest Scientists: Day 3 Hedy Lamarr
Only approximately 11% of practicing scientists today are females, and in this broad sector that attracts mostly gargoyles and androids, painfully few are nice-looking dames. That didn’t stop us from digging hard to find these hybrid ladies. Although we know them appropriately so for their contributions to scientific advancements that have made this world a better place, these women couldn’t help but smoke up the labs and classrooms they work in — and that’s not because they were blowing shit up. Well… some of them could. Guy.com salutes the hottest scientists in the world:
Day Three: Hedy Lamarr
Born: 1914
Kind of scientist: Inventor
Country: Austria
Where you could find her during her career: Mostly in a movie studio.
Career and Contributions: The world knows her first and foremost as an actress that landed parts alongside Spencer Tracy, Clark Gable and Jimmy Stewart. Cecil B. DeMille’s Samson and Delilah (1949) is perhaps her most famous filmic role. She was referred to for a long time as “The Most Beautiful Woman in Films.”
So where’s the science in all of this? She patented the “Secret Communication System” that became the basis of both secure military communications in WWII and later in mobile phone technology. The idea was originally intended to solve the problem of enemies blocking the radio frequencies of radio-controlled missiles, but wasn’t used until much later, after the transistor was invented and scaled down.
GUY wants to work out some equations with this dame.

That’s Hedley….
