Animal of the Day: Pygmy Goat

Beasts are all around us. Many of them are familiar and many of them are so odd and mysterious that they challenge the laws of what we find nonfiction. Each weekday on GUY, we take a look at one of them.

A warning: Some will be adorable. Some will make your skin crawl. Some of them will make you never want to leave the house.

Yesterday’s Animal: The Go-Away Bird!

Today’s Animal: The Pygmy Goat!

"But this IS my ferocious face."

Goats are terrific animals. Everyone knows about goats. Eyes far apart. Delightful voices. Pagan Symbolism.

But the pygmy goat is something very different. Imagine a goat the size of a small dog who is domesticated. Lovable. Fun-loving. Imagine no more because they exist and they’re even better that you think. Rapidly growing in popularity, pygmy goats have gone from being the fun size-challenged value added denizens of farms to residents of homes and other places not commonly known for livestock. Depending on your area you may be qualified to have one of these little fellows in your own suburban back yard. And for a fraction the cost of a dog from a breeder.

There’s tons of miniature versions of larger animals out there. Some of them are cute and some look deformed but they all lack the flexibility and bonding possibilities of goats. Surprisingly, these bearded hoofers play well with cats and dogs and kids and a few have lived to twenty years of age. That’s longer than most dogs.

Plus, they’ll leap up for no reason while making goat sounds and that is worth the admission price alone.

Quick Hits:

  • If it were horse sized, we’d… WONDER WHY HUGE GOATS ARE NEEDED IN THIS DAY AND AGE.
  • If it had wings, it’d… BE THE CUTEST THING ABOVE US.
  • If granted human intellect, it’d… BREED MINI-HUMANS AND CACKLE AT OUR PINK CUTENESS.
  • If ‘Day of the Animals’ happened, we’d… BE LULLED INTO SUBMISSION MY THEIR MEAN BUT ADORABLE BLEATS.

Have a peek:

Remember: Imagine a goat the size of a small dog who is domesticated.

  1. Someone forgot to write an excerpt!

Nick, you’re right that this one is definitely cute. If it could be house trained and trained not to eat non food items, it might well make a nice pet

However, I think I still have you beat when it comes to lovable miniature animals. I’ll see your mini-goat and raise you a pudu. The worlds smallest/most adorable deer! https://wiki.mbgsd.org/@api/deki/files/31/=13_days_old_baby_southern_Pudu.jpg
